The creation story for this piece was inspired by the colours of the Aboriginal flag. However our current flag is under duress. We as a community have an ongoing copyright dispute with a white man. This non Aboriginal company owns the rights to our flag. This means as an Aboriginal business I can not use my flag on my merchandise without paying this white man a fee. To learn more head over to @clothingthegaps as they have been campaigning to #freetheflag
This situation appears to have stifled any celebrations of the well-known symbol synonymous with Indigenous rights campaigns.
So to honour the colours of the Aboriginal flag these design was created.
On the back left shoulder it states "I acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands I walk" to show respect and it is on the left to show this sentiment comes from the heart.
